Whether or not the Service Manual is CAL
The responses to the following FAQs come from Ric B, Chief Executive at the World Service Office. Page references are to the World Service Al-Anon Alateen Service Manual.
The WSO was asked at the 2006 WSC to send a copy of questions it receives from Conference members and our responses to all Conference members so that they can share leadership by responding to recurring questions in their Areas. The WSO believes that the following question and our response might be one of those topics.
Question: Why does the copyright page of the Al-Anon/Alateen Service Manual state, “"Portions Approved by World Service Conference, Al-Anon Family Groups"?
Answer: The Service Manual reads: "Portions Approved by World Service Conference” because only the “Digest of Al-Anon and Alateen Policies,” the “World Service Handbook,” and the “Al-Anon’s Twelve Concepts of Service” sections of the Manual are brought to the Conference anytime a change is recommended to their texts.
The “Al-Anon and Alateen Groups at Work” section of the book is updated or revised by WSO staff, based on changes approved by the Conference to the other sections of the book.
