Media Information
Al-Anon is keen to work effectively with the media.
Our primary goal is to help the families and friends of alcoholics.
Al-Anon has a code of conduct - or 'traditions' - that may sometimes seem to make it hard for us to work with the media in
the same way as other organisations. For example, our code of conduct asks Al-Anon members to avoid being directly identified
as such within the media. For further information on this aspect please contact our Public Information Department. We also
avoid commenting on issues unrelated to Al-Anon or endorsing other organisations or initiatives. We are a self-funding
organisation, declining outside donations or Government funding.
Most journalists readily come to understand that we are confidential rather than secret and that Al-Anon is happy to
co-operate with all who want to help improve the lives of those who live with problem drinkers.
